Welcome to the  Manufacturing and Construction Careers class wiki page. We will use this page in class to link to various resources. Material will be posted as we cover it and the most recent will be at the top.

 

Do you like building things from scratch? Do you like working with tools? This course is designed to enable students to investigate careers in the construction and manufacturing industry while learning practical woodworking skills they can use now. In our Woodshop, students will be provided with opportunitys to learn basic woodworking techniques, including concepts of safety, working with hand and power tools, and basic design and construction techniques. Safety is the top priority and is heavily emphasized.

 

Measuring

Being able to read a ruler is critical when building woodworking projects. If you want a refresher, please take a look at the How to Read a Ruler presentation.

Safety

Safety is the top priority and is heavily emphasized. Here are a copy of our Basic Woodshop Safety Rules for your review. Students must pass the comprehensive safety test with a 100% before even entering the lab.  

 

Basic Safety Review and Quizes:

Students must pass the comprehensive safety test with a 100% before even entering the lab.
Prior to taking the comprehensive test, the following subjects must be mastered. View each webpage series and then take the associated quiz.
You must earn a 100% on each test before continuing on to the final test. Print each 100 to hand in as a packet with your final test. 

Finally, once you have viewed the above web pages and passed each of the 7 quizes with a 100%, you may take the Comprehensive Safety Test. You must pass this test with a 100% to enter the wood shop.

 

Tool Safety Review and Quizes

Prior to using any of the power tool, students must pass both a computer-based safety test (if available) with a 100% and an in-person practical test (always available).

View each webpage series and then take the associated quiz.

You must earn a 100% on each test before continuing on to the in-person practical test. Print each 100 to hand in.

 

CO2 Cars

During our CO2 car project, students learn more about the engineering design process, techniques for developing plans/blueprints, and techniques for developing and refining a prototype. In the end these cars will go upwards of 40 mph. The project begins with a study of the physics and science of speed at the Science of Speed website. Here is the Science of Speed Webquest packet we will complete.
